TO WEAVE

2020

Since we import many products from China and the USA, our own makers culture fades away. Local makers cannot compete with these cheap prices, due to low labour costs and the cheapest synthetic materials. These synthetic materials have caused us to almost lose sight of local natural materials, such as the roots of the madder plant. Five hundred years ago we used this to colour our textiles such as linen. To bring the consumer back in contact with these natural materials, the consumer will collaborate on this product. The tapestry is designed in such way that the consumer can weave through the tapestry with the self-coloured yarns. In this way, the local and natural materials are getting the change to come back on the market. By cooperating, the product is cheaper and there is also a stronger connection to the product, material and surroundings.
